Revive & Thrive Market Towns Challenge

Introducing Revive & Thrive Market Towns Membership and Revive & Thrive Market Towns Challenge

Revive & Thrive has been asked numerous times over the last five years to create a network aimed at offering support for market towns. Today it has arrived and with a customary Revive & Thrive bang.

What is a market town?

For the purpose of the Market Towns Challenge we are considering towns with markets or who have had markets in the past. However, all members of Revive & Thrive can participate in the challenge.

There are other towns small, medium and large that offer a great deal of distinctiveness and have a unique identity and heritage. Revive & Thrive would be pleased to welcome towns or small cities that have this identity as members and participants in the Market Towns Challenge.

Why offer a Market Town Membership?

Market towns have so much to offer with the vibrancy of their markets and or communities injecting vibrancy to the town centres. Market towns also very often have town centres which are rich with history.

But how do market towns keep their offer fresh and their visitor experience such that this vibrancy will sustain?

Keeping up to date with research and policy is one way but nothing beats meeting with others market towns and sharing ideas and best practice. Click here for more information

Why now?Revive & Thrive Market Town Challenge

This new membership is being announced to coincide with the launch of the Revive & Thrive Market Towns Challenge.

What’s that?

The Revive & Thrive Market Towns Challenge is open to all Market Towns and Place Membership holders.

It is designed to promote each participant’s town whilst offering the opportunity to learn great ideas from others.

The Challenge will run from 5th July and end at the next Revive & Thrive Conference in Chester, February 2019.

How do I enter?

On 5th July a registration page will go live where entrants can register and if they wish they can make their first brief submission.

Registration is essential but can take place anytime before 1st October 2018.

What’s involved?

The Revive & Thrive Market Towns Challenge is largely entered using photos to reduce the need for extensive research or extra workload.

The Challenge will run for seven months and entrants need to submit an entry at for at least three of those months plus submit a final summing up entry in January.

Revive & Thrive will be asking for entrants to submit at least one photo or graphic or marketing leaflet about a project or event that has taken place locally in the last 30 days, is ongoing or will take place in the following 30 days.
This is to be accompanied by the title of the project or event, a maximum five sentences describing the event and maximum five sentence description of the desired outcomes.

If there aren’t events or projects taking place during the period of the Challenge, entrants may submit photos of key reasons why visitors visit the town accompanied by the title of the subject or subjects in the photos, a maximum five sentences describing the subject and maximum five sentences describing what the subject brings to the town. This could be aesthetically, community cohesion or economically or a combination of all.

The final entry will be a summary of the three-monthly submissions and what effect they had on the town.

Additionally, entrants are requested to choose their favourite submission from other participating market towns

Each month, the entries will be promoted in the monthly Place Magazine enabling members to promote their town during the period of the Challenge and learn ideas from seeing what other market towns are doing.

If required, the same event or project may be used more than once, for example promotion of an upcoming event and then follow up to show success

What is the prize?

Focussing on visitor experience, the package of prizes will be designed to make a visit to the entrant’s town even more memorable.

As per previous Revive & Thrive Challenges, the prize package will grow throughout the duration of the challenge. The initial prize package will be announced to those who have expressed intent in during July.

Since it’s inception, the challenges that Revive & Thrive have delivered have been worth a number roughly close to £300,000 so don’t miss out on this fairly simple challenge.

Do I have to be a member?

Yes. All entrants must hold either Market Towns, Smaller Places or full Place Membership to participate.
