What can town and city centres learn from the past?
There are two ways to attend, as an invited judge or as a day visitor, and all entrants are invited to the exhibitions and the exclusive event in the evening where the 26 acre ‘living’ museum closes to the public and we take over with the village open and lit up just for us. The old fashioned fish and chip shop will be serving traditional fayre at lunchtime. The judges will enjoy other presentations and tours too.
The costs for day visitors is only £20 + vat entry. The Judges just pay £10 + vat and enjoy the whole day with the food and entertainment at no extra cost. Gate fee for entry to the Black Country Living Museum, on it’s own, is normally £16 inc vat. but included in the costs above.
All entrants will also enjoy a free guided walking tour of the 26 acre museum site from one of the museum’s Policemen.
The judging panel, is being selected for their expertise across all domains of town centre regeneration. The number of judges reflects the depth and breadth of solutions applying to compete. The objective is to ensure fair assessment of solutions by applying multiple expert perspectives.
Judges will be directly invited by Revive & Thrive but you can apply by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. This can be informal and just a few words as to what you think you could add to the panel and importantly what you could learn to take back to your community or organisation. To deliver accurate results and valuable best in class outcomes the judging panel will be limited to a maximum of 45 so apply soon. Why hold this event?
This event has grown in scale very quickly from the original concept, due to enthusiasm from all who were consulted and through the desire of Revive & Thrive to offer only the best solutions and services to the custodians of our town and city centres and their wider communities. You can read more about why we do what we do here.
Initially, the event was intended to solve the problem of the numerous technologies such as local website, apps, loyalty schemes, ‘click and collect’ solutions and so on that are being brought to us all on a daily basis. One of our colleagues told us that they now refuse to speak to anyone selling technology into a town. Whilst this is understandable it is also possible that they might miss out on the ideal solution for their centre. So, we decided to invite only the bravest of businesses to present to people who really know what they need to revive, preserve, promote or defend their town and city centres and for the businesses to be awarded ‘best in class 2015’ across several categories. This will not only be of value to the business but also the custodians who can filter who they speak to or buy from based on the views of the judging panel.
The opportunity then grew, from meeting with the Black Country Museum, to create an event to share the past with the present and future to build a day that will be informative and highly entertaining as well as having practical value to everyone attending, all for a minimal cost to day entrants and judges.
In addition to voting ‘best in class’ for technology solutions, we are asking our judges to consider what the best investment for their centre is with regard to other projects which could be anything such as, free car parking, events, mystery shopping, window dressing, signage, street furniture, pop up shops, retailer training, lighting, Christmas lights, markets, entertainers, footfall counting, maps, newsletter, local press, cost reduction services, shop local campaigns the list goes on and on and this list is for illustrative purposes only. We want our judges to hear presentations from providers of all services so that they can identify which has the greater impact and return on investment. This will then help others to learn about the most effective ways to invest not only money but their time.
This event will be one of the highlights of the year for anyone involved with town centres, regeneration and economic development, BIDs etc and the maximum delegate fee of £20 + vat does not reflect the immense value and quality of the day. Revive and Thrive has a pledge to not charge where it is not necessary and this event reflects our commitment to share best practice and great ideas as close to free as possible. For this event we are leaving no stone unturned to give you a truly memorable experience.
Are you a Business offering solutions to town, city and shopping centres?

You will be required to only give one brief presentation and you could win one of many best in class categories. It is possible that you could win more than one category or come second, third or fourth across one or more. The important outcome of the day is not just to present to up to 45 Councils, BIDs, Shopping Centres, Town Teams or Partnerships but for the future to be able to say to prospective clients that you came 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th in your category for 2015 as judged by up to 45 or more place management professionals. AND you get to exhibit all day to a great many more delegates. AND you get to enjoy the event in the evening and socialise and network with every one.
